Professor Taha Khan’s Writings to influence Coming Generations
Karachi :September 16: Pukhtoon Thinkers Forum (PTF) organised a condolence reference in memory of prominent poet, writer, and educationist Professor Taha Khan at the Arts Council of Pakistan here on Sunday. Speakers highlighted different aspects of Professor Taha Khan’s life and achievements.
Engineer Manzoor Arif, who remained a student of Professor Taha Khan at the PAF Degree College, Peshawar, said that he was a prominent literary personality. “He was not only my teacher but also a brother and friend. He used his pen against all kinds of social evils. Whoever met Professor Taha Khan became close to him later.”
Manzoor termed him a multi-dimensional personality. He said that two funerals were offered for Professor Taha Khan in Peshawar, which shows how popular he was there. He said that Professor Taha Khan was much fond of visiting tourist places and he often used to go to these places along with his friends and students. A tourist place in Swabi named Kund was his favourite picnic spot. The Indus and Kabul Rivers meet at this place. He said that as soon as he came to know about the death of Professor Taha Khan, he started sending messages to his students in Pakistan and abroad and was surprised to receive a prompt reply from most of them, saying “We know he has expired”. He played a vital role in my grooming and lots of other students, he concluded.
Amad Qasir, a poet said that Professor Taha Khan was a writer and poet of high caliber and his writings will continue to influence the coming generations. He gave a new dimension to the Urdu literature. He said that the month of August had proved unfortunate for the KP, as many prominent poets, including Ahmad Faraz and Professor Taha Khan passed in this month. Professor Taha Khan lost eyesight in 1988, but did not lose courage and kept writing. He termed his death not a loss only to literature but also to the nation. He said Professor Taha Khan was among the few writers who introduced new trends in Urdu poetry and reshaped it according to the modern world literature. He had translated various books of noted Pashtu poets Rehman Baba and Khushal Khan Khattak in Urdu.

 

A political and social worker Younas Buneri said that Professor Taha Khan’s reference will go long way in making the people aware about the views and thoughts of him. He said that organising such references in Karachi will bring people closer to one another. His death was a great shock for not only the people living in Pakistan, but also to poetry lovers around the globe.

 

Noted poet Huma Baig said that she had learned all from Professor Taha Khan. She remembered Professor Taha Khan as a man who had grip on humour and made excellent use of vocabulary, making him possible to write poems without running out of words or ideas.

 

Muhammad Arshad Khan (MAK) focused on the achievements of Professor Taha Khan and remembered him for his simplicity, modesty, patience, gentleness, generosity and encouraging behaviour with his students and young scholars. Professor Ali Haider Malik, who presided over the condolence reference, said literary work in a city like Peshawar was a great achievement by Professor Taha Khan and he deserved all credit for this. He termed him a literary legend who provided not only fun and amusement with his simple and gentle words, but also represented the emotions of common man about various issues. The participants also offered Fateha for the late Professor Taha Khan.The news.
