Lahore :September 07: government was paying special attention to development of the education sector and promotion of modern knowledge and a comprehensive roadmap was being followed in this regard. “Besides ensuring attendance of teachers in educational institutions, missing facilities are also being provided to schools. Youths are being trained in different skills under the skills development programme which is making them self-reliant as well as helping them play their due role in development of the province,” he added. He said the health insurance scheme is being launched in the province first time in its history while the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund is also an achievement of the Punjab government. Talking about devolution of powers to grassroots, Shahbaz Sharif said that such a local bodies system is being introduced which will resolve peoples’ problems at their doorstep and ensure transparency and self-accountability. He said the law regarding local bodies’ elections has been approved by the assembly, and these elections will soon be held in the province. He said the reforms have also been introduced in the taxation system and tax has been imposed on large houses while a solid strategy has been adopted for transparent utilisation of funds. He said that Pakistan is facing energy crisis, and steps are being taken on war-footing for controlling this problem. He said that besides working on new projects of power generation, unbiased action is also being taken against gas and electricity thieves due to which a number of big fish have been brought to justice. Head of DFID Richard Montgomery, while speaking on the occasion, appreciated measures taken by the Punjab government for development of the province as well as welfare of the masses. He especially lauded metro bus project and described it as a gift to the people of Lahore. He said the Punjab government has set a shining example by spending public money only on the masses. He also commended steps taken by the Punjab government for the development of health, education and other sectors and said that these measures of the Chief Minister are also being appreciated abroad.The news.
