Many Skives Classes at Schools, Colleges on First Day
Lahore : 16 August : Educational institutions of the metropolis reopened on Thursday after more than two months of summer vacations amid low attendance of both teachers and students, as demands surfaced from the latter for extension in vacations due to continuing heavy downpours.
According to the different school teachers of the metropolis, they recorded 60 percent attendance in their schools and hoped the attendance of students as well as teachers will remain complete with the end of rainy weather.Meanwhile, talking to Daily Times, teachers, students of private educational institutions and their parents complained about low attendance on first day and claimed opening of school on Monday as wastage of time.
Many boarding students were yet to return while those who returned skived their first day of studies due to rain and rainwater accumulated on roads. Nazia, a school teacher, said she came to school in heavy rain on early morning and astonished to see that principal of her school was not available. She said similarly only one student of her class was present and the rest of class was absent. She urged private schools associations to follow government schedule in future. Most parents complained about reopening of schools, saying that long power outages and heavy rainy weather made it very hard for children to settle into school-going routines.
