Lahore: The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) has offered internship opportunities to the students of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

The announcement to this effect was made by Kamal Hyat, Chief Executive/Managing Director, PPAF, during his visit to the LUMS and an interactive session with students on Thursday.

He further said the PPAF would provide an opportunity to the LUMS graduates to link up with communities, enable them to immerse with them and work with the poor people at the grassroots level. He said the development sector had become viable and offered dynamic employment opportunities to the young professionals.

Kamal Hyat said the elite-poor interaction would help the former realise the problems of the poor, who had great potential and energies but did not have resources to utilise their potentials for their own betterment. He said the PPAF was already running the Young Professionals Programme (YPS), and the students at the LUMS could benefit to understand the problems of the poor masses.

He maintained that the youths were the future of Pakistan, and the LUMS was one of the best institutions producing young leaders and specialists in every field of life. He said the PPAF was empowering the poor people and helping them realise their potentials so that they could chalk out their own destiny. Keeping this in mind, he said the PPAF would be considering supporting the LUMS National Outreach Programme (NOP).

In his presentation, Ahmed Jamal, Chief Strategy Officer, PPAF, briefed the students about the ten years performance of the institution, purpose of the establishment of PPAF and its future plans.

Dr Fahim-ul-Islam, Associate Dean, LUMS, briefed the visiting PPAF delegation about various programmes being offered to the students, particularly the Social Enterprise Development Centre and its activities. He said the LUMS and PPAF would soon be launching various training programmes for the students and development practitioners.
