A seminar Agribusiness in Pakistan Progress and Prospects  organized in Karachi University

Karachi:Value addition in agriculture produce will result in greater earnings of foreign exchange, University of Karachi (KU) Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management Chairman Dr Saleem Shahzad said on Saturday.

He was addressing a seminar titled Agribusiness in Pakistan: Progress and Prospects. The event was organized by KU agriculture and agribusiness management department, which is the only of its kind in the country where a specialisation in Agribusiness Management at BS level is offered, said a press statement issued on Sunday.

Engro Chemical Pvt. Ltd representative Eqan Ali gave an overview of global scenario of agriculture and agribusiness management and discussed the scope and opportunities of agribusiness in Pakistan. He pointed out the weaknesses in the overall agriculture-related system and also gave suggestions for bringing improvements.

Bhombal and Company representative Muhammad Saeed emphasized the need for elaborated cultivations, handling and processing of agriculture production in Pakistan.

Abdul Majid, from the agribusiness development and diversification project, Minfal, appreciated the establishment of the agribusiness department at KU.

Ahmed Ali of Shan Foods Pvt Ltd emphasized the need for value addition in agriculture produce and pointed out some weaknesses in the agriculture production processes. KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui also spoke on the occasion.
