BZU Lahore sub-Campus Approval Withdrawn
Multan, Sept 7 : The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) syndicate withdrew on Friday the approval of the establishment of the BZU sub-campus in Lahore and decided to take up the issue in its next meeting.
The university administration had claimed that the syndicate in its meeting on May 25-26 had approved the Lahore sub-campus but some members alleged that the minutes of the meeting had not correctly been recorded and that the syndicate did not approve the action of the vice-chancellor taken under Section 16(3) of the BZU Act of 1975.
According to sources, the approval of the sub-campus obtained through a circulation was withdrawn and it was decided that the committee made on the issue by the syndicate would present its report in the next meeting of the syndicate.
The committee was made by the syndicate and its meeting on June 12. The committee unanimously decided that a draft of deed of agreement between the BZU and the West Continental Group of Lahore be prepared to be sent to Senator Rafiq Rajwana for its legal vetting.
Sources said that some syndicate members expressed concern over the deal under which the university would get 10 per cent of the revenue received from the students of the Lahore sub-campus (excluding refundable securities of students, registration fee, examination fee, hostel and transport changes etc) will be paid to the university and this share will be subject to an increase after every year mutually agreed upon by the parties.
The syndicate meeting was suspended for sometime due to a broken quorum. Three syndicate members also objected to the presence of Registrar Malik Munir Husain as secretary of the syndicate in the meeting alleging he was facing inquiries and corruption allegations. When the chair overruled their objection, the three members walked out of the meeting.
Later the meeting decided to discuss the allegations and inquiries against Mr Husain under Agenda No 3 in its next meeting.Dawn.
