Sindh Govt Mulling over Setting up Technical University
Karachi : July 30: The Sindh government has been mulling over establishing a technical university for the promotion of technical education and related skills among the youth of the province, said the chief minister on Monday.
CM Qaim Ali Shah was chairing the 13th meeting of the board of governors of the Sindh Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (Stevta).Shah said negotiations were under way with the International Labour Organisation and a technical university in Korea for getting assistance for setting up a technical university in Sindh.
He directed Stevta authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for the technical university and to submit a report in this connection in the next meeting of the authority’s board of governors.
He said establishing Stevta was an important step on the part of the provincial government, which got favourable response from the relevant international agencies, while the authority’s schemes also got technical assistance from those agencies.
The CM said establishment of Stevta had helped imparting technical education and skill-based training to thousands of youths, assisting them in honourably earning a decent livelihood.
Stevta Managing Director Muhammad Abbas Baloch informed the participants of the meeting that during 2013-14, the authority was engaged in imparting regular technical training to some 40,000 youths.
He said Stevta also imparted training to some 15,000 youths under other programmes, enabling them to get employment opportunities and earn a decent livelihood.The news.
