Two killers of student sentenced to death
Karachi:September 01: An anti-terrorism court awarded death sentence to two men on Saturday for kidnapping and killing a university student in the year 2011.
Judge Khalida Yaseen awarded capital punishment to Abdu Bakar Sadiq and Naseer Butt after finding them guilty of kidnapping and killing 17-year-old student Syed Ahmed Bilal.
The judge observed in her order that the two convicts were liable to be hanged twice due to the nature of their crime. The court also ordered the two convicts to pay Rs 100, 000 each to the heirs of the deceased as compensation.
As many as 13 witnesses, including two eye-witnesses, recorded their statements in the case lodged by Syed Jamalullah, the father of deceased Bilal.
According to the complainant, Bilal had left his Gizri residence on August 20, 2011, for visiting his classmate Abu Bakar Sadiq but did not return. The family received a call from Abdu Bakar Sadiq after two days, who demanded two million rupees in ransom for Bilal’s release. Consequently, Bilal’s father lodged a kidnapping case following which the police raided the house of Abdu Bakar Sadiq who told that Bial was killed by him and Naseer Butt.
The police arrested the two accused and recovered Bilal’s dead body and his cell-phone sim from Shireen Jinnah Colony area.
The Gizri police station registered the case (FIR No 226/2011) against the accused under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 256-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) of 1997.
