PU VC Address Concerns of Mycology and Plant Pathology students

Lahore: The Board of Studies in the Institute of Mycology and Plant Pathology and Board of Faculty of Life Sciences have already approved the change of nomenclatures of the institute and BSc and MSc degrees to remove the grievances over the status of the institute's degree to safeguard and brighten the job prospects of the students, Punjab University Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jamil Anwar CH said on Monday.

He was addressing a joint meeting of the faculty and students of the Institute of Mycology and Plant Pathology at the PU New Campus, which was also attended by Faculty of Life Sciences Dean Prof Dr Shahida Hussain and Assistant Professor Dr Ghazala Naseem. It is worth mentioning that the students of the department had been protesting for two weeks over the status being given to degrees that was not on an equal level with the degree of the Agriculture Department.

The acting VC told the students that the Board of Studies in the Institute of Mycology and Plant Pathology and the Board of Faculty of Life Sciences have already given their approval to the change of nomenclature from the Institute of Mycology and Plant Pathology to Institute of Plant Pathology, in addition to changing the nomenclature of degrees from BSc and MSc Mycology and Plant Pathology to BSc and MSc Agriculture by adopting the curricula of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Plant Pathology for the said degrees.
