Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) to take 512 students for MBBS

Karachi: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) announced its final merit admission list for Dow Medical College (DMC), Sindh Medical College (SMC) and Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan Institute for Oral Health Sciences on Friday.

The list is accessible via the university website, www.duhs.edu.pk. The candidates listed from merit numbers 1 to 750 have been told to come to the university with their documents on Sunday. If a candidate fails to arrive at the university on time or without the documents, their seat will be cancelled and given to the candidate next on the list and no claims will be heard later.

Candidates with merit numbers from 1 to 213 will report to DMC's Arag Auditorium by 9:00 a.m. while those with numbers from 214 to 426 are required to reach DMC's Moin Auditorium by 10 a.m. Candidates from 427 to 527 will report to the DMC Community Medicine Lecture Hall in the administration block at 11:00 a.m. and those with numbers from 528 to 628, 629 to 710 and 711 to 750 will report there by 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. respectively.

APP adds: DUHS Admission Program Coordinator Dr Rana Qamar revealed that there are 426 general merit seats and 86 self-finance seats for the MBBS program while 34 general merit seats and 12 self-finance seats for the BDS program. The total number of seats available in the two programs is 588, the figure includes the 30 reciprocal seats reserved for students from other medical colleges in Sindh that want to acquire education at Dow or Sindh Medical Colleges.

There are a total of 426 seats in DMC and SMC, the top 213 students will be accommodated at DMC and the next 213 students will be accommodated at SMC. Dr Qamar stated that students keen to be at DMC despite not being in the top 213 on the general merit list can get accommodation only if general seats are left, otherwise they may be advised to get admission on a self-finance basis. All the merit and self-finance seats for the BDS program are available at Dr Ishratul Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences, she said.

The open merit list candidates will only by granted admission once they deposit their pay orders. These students have been asked to bring admit card copies that were issued to them for the entry test.

The admission fee for the MBBS and BDS programs is Rs 24,150 while the annual fee for general merit seats is Rs 15,000 and Rs 60,000 respectively. Self-financing students have to pay Rs 250,000 and Rs 300,000 for the two programs.

Dr Qamar clarified that the reciprocal seats are also available to Karachi students who passed the DUHS admission test but want to go to public sector medical colleges in other parts of Sindh.

Dow University has also announced that admissions, for inter-science pre-medical students, in the bachelor courses of Medical Technology, Dental Technology, Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy will be revealed by the end of September. Daily Times
