VCs of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences oppose restoration of student unions

LAHORE:THE University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on the directions of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) arranged a video conference meeting of vice-chancellors of public and private universities to discuss restoration of student unions in the country on Saturday.

At the meeting, the VCs of all the public and private sector universities unanimously opposed the restoration of student unions in the prevailing situation of the country. They however suggested alternatives i.e. student societies, clubs, forums and federations to provide the students with a platform to raise their voice and develop leadership qualities in them.

According to a press statement, the UVAS video conference meeting participants discussed the issue with the participants of 11 other such video conference meetings held in various cities across the country.

In Lahore, such video conferences were held only at the UVAS and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET).

At the UVAS, Prof Dr Nizam-ud-Din, vice chancellor, University of Gujrat, Prof Dr Munawar S Mirza from the University of Education, Lahore, Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz from the UVAS, Prof Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhry from the University of Sargodha and representatives from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, the UMT, Lahore, University of South Asia, Lahore , Minhaj University, Lahore, University of Central Punjab, Lahore , University of Lahore , University of Health Sciences, Lahore, Superior College, Lahore, and NCA, Lahore, attended the meeting.

The federal education secretary and HEC executive director attended the meeting through video conference from Islamabad and Karachi, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to another press statement, a weeklong training course onLivestock Breeding and Reproduction concluded at UVAS. The UVAS in collaboration with the EU-SLSP (Strengthening of Livestock Services Project) arranged the training course for the capacity building of the officers from the Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Balochistan.

The course participants were trained in livestock breeding, reproduction, artificial insemination and management and production of livestock.
