Punjab University Professor Harassment
LAHORE -The Lahore High Court on Tuesday annulled the Punjab Governor’s orders to reinstate Punjab University Professor Iftikhar Baloch who was sacked by the syndicate on the charges of harassing a female student.
The court passed the orders on a petition moved by Shabina Gul, challenged the reinstatement of Iftikhar Baloch by the Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood.
The petitioner through her counsel submitted that Iftikhar Baloch was terminated from College of Earth and Environmental Sciences by the PU syndicate in 2010.
The termination was done after detailed probe on the allegations of sexual harassment, the counsel pointed out.
However, the sitting Punjab governor had suspended the termination orders of the ex-professor and reinstated him which was illegal and misuse of authority, the counsel added.
He requested the court to nullify the orders of the Punjab’s governor by declaring the illegal and unlawful. The court recorded the arguments and suspended the Punjab governor’s orders.Nation.
