Islamabad:Dozens of graduates were awarded with certificates in an auspicious ceremony held on Friday to mark the graduation of 26th batch of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Finishing School.

Addressing the ceremony, Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Farzana Raja said that in todays world a Muslim woman must be able to face the challenges of life boldly, without losing the bearings of Islamic ideology.

I am confident that the personality development programme to which the students have been exposed at the finishing school will bring about all-round refinement in your lives, she said.

Raja said that the womenfolk have a vital role to play in the betterment of any society, as no society could afford to ignore women that account for half of its population. In our eastern culture, a girl is destined to adapt to a new environment after her marriage and many a times she has to face altogether different environment, she said while adding that the institutions like PAF could provide valuable guidance to our girls, as they move from one environment to another, marked with independence and responsibility.

She said that the dynamics of media, the rapid dissemination of knowledge and instant means of communication have revolutionized our lifestyles. As a member of progressive nation, we have to remain in step with the march of time however, it is equally essential to develop in themselves a dignified poise reflecting the aspirations of a Pakistani girl.

While presenting the school report PAF Director Nasreen Aurangzeb said that although

the idea of school was brought from the west, the concept of its curriculum and extra curriculum activities had been evolved within the broad parameters of Quranic teachings and our cultural values.

The school imparts knowledge and skills to help the students to keep pace with the advancements in the modern world, she said while adding that it also inculcates in them universally accepted moral, social and ethical values, to take a balanced view of the rigors of the life.

She said that the multifaceted programme offers a wide range of courses with special emphasis on spiritual enrichment, entrepreneurship, communication and management skills, computer, general cultural and heritage, health care nutrition and cuisine, art and related arts.

Besides we also offer history of arts and its appreciation, art of self presentation, psychology, human and legal rights and mass communication, she said.

Aurangzeb said that the students undergo a physical fitness programme, which includes yoga, aerobics and swimming. The survival course is an interesting experience that trains the students to cope with adverse circumstances and teaches them leadership qualities.

The PAF Finishing School was established in July 1996 for female students and offers various courses in communication skills, languages, management, art of self-presentation, domestic sciences, general culture, cuisine, protocol art, child care, introduction to psychology and spiritual enrichment.
