Workshop on gender research at Fatima Jinnah Women University
Rawalpindi:June 28: The Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organised a workshop on ‘Gender and Research’ here on Thursday.
The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Sally Kenny, political science professor at the Tulane University. The aim of the workshop was to determine whether academic research and the concepts people deal with are relevant and could assist the communities and those who study them. The workshop was attended by students of MS in Higher Education Leadership and Management.
During the workshop, Dr. Sally Kenny elaborated the definition of feminism and its different aspects in detail. She also discussed various case studies with the students and exchanged ideas and thoughts with them. She urged that simply including women in research is not enough. It is important to understand gender as relationships between men and women that affect development rather than simply focusing on involving more women. She also explained the difference between case study and research paper and discussed the guidelines about how to write a case study. In the end, she shared videos on various gender issues with the students.
At the same time, Dr. Agnieszka Nance and Dr. Beth Wee held a meeting with different heads of departments of FJWU. In the meeting, they talked about the courses taught at Tulane University and community services. After that faculty member of FJWU briefed them on the community services performed by students of FJWU and service learning courses. They also discussed the idea of community service centre. They said that we have small percentage of academia and Industry linkages and that context creates problems to address the issues. They stressed on the need for collaboration between academia and industry for progress. The news.
