Khosa announces Rs100m for College of Physicians and Surgeons
LAHORE, : Senior Adviser to Chief Minister Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa on Wednesday announced a grant of Rs100 million for the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) to improve the standard of medical education in the country.

He was addressing the 44th convocation of the CPSP as a chief guest held at a local hotel.

CPSP President Zafarullah Chaudhry, Regional Director Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice-President Prof Abdullah Jan Jaffar, Treasurer Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa, and Prof Muhammad Daud Khan were also present on the occasion, besides a number of other senior doctors and students. In the convocation 300 doctors were awarded fellowship degrees and 75 membership diplomas.

The senior adviser underlined the need for more specialist doctors to combat the growing disease burden in the country.

“I assure you of my personal and Punjab government’s full support in accomplishing your future goals and plans. I also wish to take this opportunity to extend my heart-felt felicitations to the doctors who are being conferred upon fellowship, membership or diploma of the college,” Zulfiqar Khosa said.

The senior adviser asked the CPSP president and the other college faculty to produce specialists at district level health institutions also.

“The Punjab government accords great importance to CPSP proposals and certainly will be glad to include the college in policy-making bodies related to medical education and healthcare.”

Earlier, in his welcome address CPSP president Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry said the college now had 139 accredited training institutes in Pakistan and 96 in other countries.

Later, the CPSP awarded honorary fellowship to country’s renowned and senior medics in recognition of their services.
