NED University of Engineering Karachi approves Rs989m deficit budget

Karachi:The NED University of Engineering & Technology has approved a deficit budget for the fiscal year 2009-10 at the seventeenth meeting of the Senate held on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by NED Vice-Chancellor (VC) Engr Abul Kalam, in the absence of the Chancellor (Sindh governor) and Pro-Chancellor (Sindh education minister) of the university.

The university presented a recurring budget of Rs989.219 million. The envisaged income from different sources is Rs804.104 million and Rs185.115 million comes out as the deficit. The university has asked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for a grant of Rs540 million and the HEC has promised to inject Rs622 million but, as one university official remarked, “It is just a promise. Let us wait and see if it materialises”.

The VC, in his annual report, informed the Senate that the university had admitted 1,911 undergraduate students and awarded 974 degrees in 13 disciplines.
