Punjab University (PU) Pakistan Study Centre to recruit teachers

Lahore: The Punjab University (PU) Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) has been allowed to recruit teachers under the tenure track system (TTS) in line with the criteria set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), according to a press statement issued by the PU on Friday.

The statement said the PSC board of governors (BoG), in a meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran at the New Campus, had approved a Rs 9.2 million budget for 2008-09 financial year, and recommended that the estimated budget for 2009-10 fiscal year would be Rs 12.4 million.

The BoG also approved the PSC's annual report and reviewed the implementation status of the decisions taken in the last meeting. It also evaluated the performance of the faculty members and recommended improvements in the PhD programme. The BoG also approved the appointment of assistant professors and associate professors at the PSC.

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Professors Dr Rasool Bux Raees and Dr Muhammad Waseem, Quaid-e-Azam University Prof Dr Sarfraz Khawaja, Virtual University VC Prof Dr Naveed Malik, Federal Education Department's Zaheer Ahmad Chaudhry, former chief secretary Pervaiz Masud, and PU Professors Shaista Sonnu Sirajuddin, Dr Mugheesuddin, Dr Tehsin Farooqi, Registrar Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan and PSC Director Prof Dr Mussarat Abid also attended the meeting.

PhD degree: The PU has awarded a PhD degree in Mass Communication to Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) Journalism and Mass Communication Department Chairman Khalid Sultan.

According to details Dr Sultan's research work titled "Electronic Media Polio Immunisation Campaign - Effects of Health Communication on Parents in NWFP" was evaluated by professors in Germany and Singapore. ...............
