GEC merged into Girls Elementary College
Rawalpindi:29 June: The Government Elementary College (GEC) has been merged into the Girls Elementary College, Islamabad, despite protest by the teachers and students. Punjab Education Secretary Abdul Jabbar Shaheen has issued notification in this regard. The GEC, Rawalpindi, was performing national duty of imparting state of the art training to the teachers and enhancing their professional skills since the last 37 years. The government has issued notification of its disbandment with one stoke of pen, paying no heed to the grave concern voiced by the teachers and the students. The classes would now be conducted in the Girls Elementary College from Friday. As many as 103 students are studying in GEC, Rawalpindi. 73 among them are M Ed students while 40 students are attending the B Ed classes. 12 senior subject specialists, five clerks, 13 class four employees, principal and vice principal of grade 20 and 19 are likely to be declared surplus following the issuance of this notification.Daily Times.
