Need Stressed for Viable Education, Youth Training Strategy
Karachi : July 19: Pakistan, with a vast majority of its population comprising youth, urgently needs a well-planned strategy for their education and training with major emphasis on community support programmes.
Activists addressing a seminar on “The role of youth in community support programmes”, organised by the Bahria University of Management Sciences, in collaboration with Friends of Burns Centre (FOBC), Civil Hospital, said that the challenges of poverty and illiteracy had to be tackled through efficient strategies complemented by a pragmatic approach to implement them.
The session provided an opportunity to both the senior and young social activists to share their experiences in making an effort to improve the quality of life of the less privileged segment of society.
Activists extensively discussed challenges faced in the quest for social development and the untapped opportunities in the sphere of social entrepreneurship.
Speakers included Abdullah Feroz (President-FOBC), Arjumand A. Qazi (VP-FOBC), Capt. Mohsin Hayat Malik TI(M)PN (Director-Bahria University, Karachi Campus, Farheen Iqbal (HR Manager-HealthTV) and Shoukat I. Khattak (Bahria University Community Support Programme Coordinator, Management Sciences Department).
The FOBC representatives on the occasion also appreciated and acknowledged contribution made by Bahria University students and the teaching staff for creating burns care and safety awareness among 12,000 community members, as part of their 40 hours mandatory community service.
In addition to community awareness, the students also raised more than Rs140,000 for the needy patients at the Friends of Burns Centre, CHK.The Director, Bahria University, Karachi campus, on the occasion, also presented a cheque of Rs140,000 to the FOBC President.The news.
