President of Pakistan orders repair of Rahman Baba shrine
Asim Yasin:ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday directed the concerned authorities to renovate the damaged shrine of Rahman Baba in Peshawar on priority basis. The president said that the federal government would bear the renovation cost of Rahman Baba's shrine to show solidarity with the NWFP people.
Zardari said the cowardly act of terrorists should not deter the people to visit the shrine and pay their homage to a saint, who preached peace and harmony. He urged that more and more people should visit the shrine to demonstrate that they will not be deterred.
The president also advised that his office should be kept informed about the progress made on renovation of the shrine. Let the beautiful shrine rebuilt to send out a clear message that the militants cannot deter the peace loving people, he said. It may be recalled that the shrine of mystic poet Rahman Baba was blown up by suspected militants last week, which triggered protests and resentment.
