Rs 23m Scholarships for GCUF Students
Faisalabad :May 28:  The Higher Education Commission in collaboration with World Bank has approved scholarships worth around Rs 23 million for deserving and talented students of GC University Faisalabad.
This was stated by GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zakir Hussain during a meeting with Students Financial Aid Office. In charge Financial Aid Saima Perveen was present on the occasion. The VC said the aid will benefit around 214 students. He praised the steps being taken on the part of HEC for the promotion of higher education. He said in a last decade owing to the HEC’s initiatives, the commission has awarded more than 10,000 local and foreign scholarships through a well-defined and transparent mechanism across the country. The VC said student enrolments at universities across the country in the last ten years has jacked up from 330,000 to over a million whereas increase in enrolled women in universities has increased from 36pc to 46pc. He lauded the steps taken on the part of HEC to improve the quality of education for making them at par with international standard by raising the education and uplifting the status of teaching staff with high pay. He also applauded steps of former Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s for education sector. He said as many as Rs 40 million Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) scholarships had been provided to the talented and deserving students of GCUF in the last five years. Saima Perveen briefed the VC that the scholarships are being disbursed on merit in a transparent way. She said Financial Aid Office which was set up in 2007 in collaboration with HEC is taking all possible steps for providing an access of higher education to the deserving students.The news.
