Liaquat University of Medical Sciences employees' donation for IDPs

Hyderabad: Employees of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences had donated one-day salary amounting to Rs500,000 for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Malakand, said the LUHMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Noshad A. Shaikh on Wednesday.

He said at the vice-chancellors' video conference which was organised by the Higher Education Commission to make efforts to help the IDPs from Fata, Malakand, Buner and Swat that the university would waive off all fees, including tuition and hostel fee and give pocket money of Rs3,000 per month to the students of the affected areas who were studying in the LUMHS till the situation in their areas improved.

He formed a team of professionals to be sent to the affected areas. The donation would be sent to the HEC, he said.

Meanwhile, Rs2 million was donated to internally-displaced people (IDPs) of Swat and other areas of Malakand division by District Nazim Tando Allahyar Dr Rahila Magsi on the appeal of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.

She said that the money had been sent to the Prime Minister's Fund. This was the first donation from any district government of Sindh. She called upon all to donate whatever possible to IDPs. Dawn
