Teachers Want Promotions in Sukkur

Sukkur: 19 September : A large number of primary schoolteachers took out a procession under the banner of Mehran Teachers Association in Jacobabad on Monday in protest against the education department's failure to promote them to next higher grade.
The procession marched on different roads before arriving at the press club where the protesters observed a token hunger strike for two hours.
The protesters' leaders told journalists that the teachers who had bought jobs after paying huge bribes to corrupt officers were being promoted in violation of principles of merit while senior teachers recruited on merit were being ignored.
They demanded the department award promotions to senior teachers to next higher posts purely on the basis of merit and warned they would continue protest and token hunger strike if the demand was not met. Dawn.
