Punjab Govt to Give Scooties to Girl Students, says Minister
Rawalpindi : July 19: PROVINCIAL Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan has said that the Punjab government has envisioned to provide free of cost rechargeable scooties to the female college students in order to address the transport linked problems of the female college students.
According to a handout issued on Thursday, he said that under a pilot project, in the first phase locally manufactured scooties will be provided to the female students of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi. The students willing to ride on scooties will travel from Main Campus Women University Rawalpindi Cantt to their respective hostel at the closing time and special security will be provided to these girls on their way by the traffic police.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan disclosed this while addressing an inaugural ceremony of the Countdown Role Play Programme on Thursday. The minister said the present government is committed to the policy of giving every such facility to the girl students which will help enhance their interest in promotion of higher education which will result in a phenomenal betterment as far as the dropout rate is concerned. The use of rechargeable scooties run by battery power will also help reduce atmospheric pollution besides relieving the society from intense mental stress which is a side product of the daily hassle and bustle on the roads. It will also help encourage the women workforce to stand on their own feet, the minister added.
He said the Punjab government procured 143 new buses for the educational institutions during the last fiscal year. The cost of each new bus was Rs. 80 lakh but these buses are converted into scrape in a year or so. This is why the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has decided to promote pedestrianisation in the vicinity of newly constructed educational institutions. There will be probation for plying motorcycles on the premises of various sector universities lying in the vicinity of Kala Shah Kaku, and the motorists will also be asked not to go beyond the parking areas specified for this purpose.
The minister revealed that the Punjab government has planned to establish a “Knowledge City” in Rakh Chah near Defense Lahore which will be spread on an area of 650 acres in the suburb of Lahore City. The pedestrians will be encouraged on the premises of proposed knowledge city while the motorists will be asked to park their vehicles at a distance from the academic blocks of different educational institutions in future.The news.
