18 Foreign Medical Graduates out of 507 Pass UHS Test

LAHORE:June 26, 2010:Foreign medical and dental graduates have shown a very poor performance in registration examination held by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) as only 18, out of total 507 graduates from 15 different countries of the world, could pass the test.

The result of registration exam was announced on Friday at a press conference at the UHS by the members of the National Examination Board (NEB), with the varsity Vice Chancellor Prof M H Mubbashar in the chair. Other members present included Prof Dr Gul Muhammad, Prof Dr Jaffar Khan, Prof Dr Rafiq Chatta, and Maj Gen (retd) Tassawar Hussain.

Interestingly, none of the 7 dental graduates could get through the exam. It was informed that 207 candidates from China appeared in the exam, out of which only six passed, from Kyrgyz Republic three out of 110, Kazakhstan five out of 69, Bangladesh two out of four whereas one candidate each from Lithuania and Kenya could pass the exam.

No candidate from Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, Damascus, Dominican Republic, Philippine, Romania, Georgia and Ukraine could pass the exam.

The speakers informed only two medical and one dental graduate failed when the same question paper was given to 32 Pakistani medical graduates from Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Lahore and Services Institute of Medical Sciences, and 10 dental graduates from de’ Montmorency College of Dentistry Lahore.

The members of NEB recommended that all those foreign graduates who had failed in the exam must be given proper training of one year under PMDC controlled centres in all four provinces of the country. The roll numbers of successful foreign graduates are: 101105, 101119, 101121,101157, 101197, 101198, 101251, 101331, 101333, 101370, 101402,101403, 101407, 101416, 101455, 101458, 101478 and 101501.

It is pertinent to mention that the registration examination is conducted twice a year and it is mandatory for every foreign doctor or dentist to pass this examination before he/she is allowed to practice in Pakistan. The National Examination Board, constituted by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), conducts the examination to determine the professional competence or otherwise of a candidate for registration and equivalence of his/her foreign medical and dental qualifications.

Last year, the PMDC handed over the task of conducting registration examination to the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore. Theory examination was held in Islamabad on June 20.The News
