Rootsians celebrate International Literacy Day
Islamabad :September 10: The ‘International Literacy Day’ celebrated at Roots International Schools (RIS) here on Monday.
The RIS students joined Unesco and the rest of the world in memorialising International Literacy Day 2013. It’s been over 40 years now, Unesco has been celebrating International Literacy Day by being reminiscent to the global community that literacy is a human right and the basis of all knowledge.
The day was observed in its real spirit and grace, in all Roots International Schools Islamabad and Rawalpindi branches. The concept of literacy was elaborated to the students in the assemblies. They were told that literacy is at the heart of fundamental learning for all, and indispensable for wiping out poverty, diminishing child mortality, restraining population growth, accomplishing gender impartiality and guaranteeing continuous growth, tranquillity and social equality. Later on students were also given opportunity to express their views regarding the significance of the day.
Various constructive activities for students were pre-organised by the RIS team. They were asked to ‘Design Posters to Raise Awareness’ whereby students crafted inspiring posters about literacy and its connection to future accomplishments. The posters were displayed around the school. Students were told to explore an assortment of careers, counting opportunities for students in other parts of the globe, and what literacy proficiencies are needed for each of these researched careers. Moreover ‘Talk up Encouragement’ was also recommended to students.Whereby they were suggested to discuss their careers to their parents and friends about their future goals.The news.
