Despite being one of the key seats of higher education in Pakistan, LUMS has often been criticised for its irregular admissions policy. In 2006, LUMS was forced to render disfunctional its bachelor-level admission test (the LBAT) after serious irregularities in the admissions process were reported. Professor Robert Knepp (a retired teacher now residing in Pakistan) reportedly criticised the LUMS admissions criteria and called it "biased and unfair" to deserving students.[citation needed]
