CM's committee to rule on fair entry test

Lahore, Aug 22, 2008: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday constituted a high-level committee in connection with conducting the entry test for the current academic year for admission in medical colleges in a transparent and improved fashion. The committee has been ordered to make its recommendations regarding short-term measures within 48 hours and long-term measures within two weeks.

The committee is headed by the Health secretary and also comprises the principals and vice chancellors of several Lahore varsities. In the short-term measures, the committee will recommend how the system of entry can be made more reliable and credible. The committee will also review the commercial aspect, including the exorbitant fees being charged by academies offering courses to clear entry test. It will also finalise a mechanism to rationalise the equivalence criteria for A-Level students. In the long-term measures, the committee will examine the current system of FSc examination in detail and make suggestions as to how it can be improved. Daily Times
