More schools under CDGK Pilot Project Karachi
Karachi: The Committee for Monitoring and Improvement of Schools (CMIS) of the city government has selected two more schools, one in Orangi Town and other in Gulberg Town, to develop them under Pilot Project School Scheme of the CDGK.
The CIMS has already developed one pilot project school in each of the 11 towns in the city with proper renovation, computer and science labs, libraries, auditoriums, sports grounds, health clinics with appointment of doctors and free medicines and several other facilities, which are not available even in the renowned private schools. It may be noted here that Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) is funding the Pilot Project.
Chairperson CMIS, Farhana Iqbal, said that various dilapidated schools, including Government Girls and Boys Higher Secondary School Orangi Town No 13, would be developed and renovated under this scheme.
It was a higher secondary school but the higher-grade classes never held here due to lethargic attitude of the officials at education department.
The other school, which has been selected, is Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Azizabad, Gulberg Town. But the infrastructure of this school is not in a bad condition and the overall condition of basic civic facilities and atmosphere is appropriate. However, the standard and level of education is the same as in other government-run schools.
Farhana Iqbal further said that advanced science and computer labs and a health clinic would be set up at these schools while Town Education Development Centre (TEDC) would also be established there to provide advanced professional training to the teachers of other schools.
"Just two years back, no one could imagine that CDGK-run schools would be provided modern civic facilities such as advanced education system, clinics with expert doctors and free medicines, computer labs, libraries and auditoriums but all these objectives have been achieved in a number of towns due to the cooperation between FPCCI and CDGK. Now, only five towns are left where Pilot Project is yet to be started. They are Lyari Town, Malir, Shah Faisal Town, New Karachi and Gadap Town," she added.
Farhana mentioned that hundreds of CDGK teachers were also being trained in advanced education standards with a view to bring them at par with their counterparts in well-reputed private schools. "These trained teachers will gradually be appointed in those schools which are being developed. The CMIS is working voluntarily to uplift the standards of education in the CDGK run schools where children of poor masses would get education", she further said. The Nation
