First batch of industrial engineers of NWFP University to graduate next year

PESHAWAR: The first batch of Industrial Engineering Department of the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology would graduate next year.

“Established in 2006, Industrial Engineering Department has 60 students on its roll, whose first batch will graduate next year,” said Dr Iftikhar, chairman of the department while briefing the reporters. He also pointed out the issues relating to accreditation of the department by the Pakistan Engineering Council.

Dr Iftikhar said the department was aggressively pursuing faculty development programme. “Faculty have been sent to pursue PhD studies at the University of Bradford, UK, under a joint agreement while academic and research activities are also in place with Malaysian University under a fellowship programme,” he added.

Vice-Chancellor Imtiaz Hussain Gilani gave directions for allotment of new classrooms for the department in the new academic block being constructed on the campus and agreed to furnish two state-of-the-art laboratories for the department so that students could get hands-on practice besides theoretical knowledge.

Dr Iftikhar said: “Industrial engineering is a cutting-edge discipline which is rapidly becoming popular in Pakistan”.The VC said that industrial engineering faculty had to develop linkages with local industry for mutual benefits.
