Inaugural ceremony of girls hostel Dow Medical College Karachi

KARACHI - Newly constructed girls hostel for the students of Dow International Medical College was inaugurated on Saturday at Ojha Campus of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).
The building of the hostel has been constructed with a cost of Rs180 million, funded by Higher Education Commission (HEC). The three-storey building has 100 rooms to accommodate nearly 200 students of the college.
The HEC had provided the said amount of fund for the construction of two buildings including Institute of Nursing and the girls’ hostel. City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jaleel has inaugurated the said building.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Nasreen said that nearly 62 TB (Tuberculosis) Centres were working in the megalopolis, out of the said figures merely 22 centres were being run under the supervision of City District Government Karachi (CDGK), while DUHS looked after four centres.
She appreciated the development of Dow University and congratulated the Vice Chancellor DUHS and his team for their work and also offered her help whenever required. She asked, after looking at DIMS New Academic Block, the Vice Chancellor to increase the teaching faculty as per requirement of PMDC and for increasing the number of seats.
“This would facilitate our brothers living abroad who would like their children to study in Pakistan and also the local students who have not been successful in seeking seat in Dow Medical College and Sindh Medical College. The teaching and training facility available to the students who have intermediate science qualification is now expanded from just Medical Science to Nursing, Medical Technology, Pharm D and others,” she added.
Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Masood Hameed Khan gave briefing about the developmental work and future programmes of DUHS to the chief guest and audience. He said that introduction of new technologies was a need to train the medical students to carry out the stipulated task, as it was an era of gaining vast knowledge and exploring the new horizons. For bright future, Dow University is really establishing new standards of academic excellence at DUHS and its constituent institutions, he added. Prof Zeenat Ayub, Dean, Dow International Medical College, also spoke on the occasion. Nation
