Faisalabad University Seminar On “World Blood Donors Day”
Faisalabad:15 June:Department of Pathology, University Medical & Dental College organized a seminar on “World Blood Donors Day” on June 14, 2013. Prof Dr Mohammad Iqbal Tahir, Advisor to Chairman BOG, TUF was the chief guest while Mr Naseer Ahmad , a volunteer blood donor was the guest of honour.
Addressing the audience, Dr Mubashar Ahmad, from Department of Pathology, said that according to Blood Transfusion Authority, Pakistan requires real time 7,800 blood donations every day. Only Islamabad and Rawalpindi have as many as 8,000 Thalassemia patients who need blood at any cost to save their lives. In Pakistan, every year thousands of people die due to non-availability of blood, but only one percent of a population of 180 million, mostly young, donate their blood. The people who donate voluntarily are not more than 10 percent out of the total donors.
Prof Dr Mohammad Iqbal Tahir, in his address said as there is an acute dearth of blood donors in our society, an awareness campaign should be launched amongst the youth in this regard. He appreciated the efforts of Department of Pathology, UMDC in this context.
Mr Naseer Ahmad told that he belongs to Faisalabad. He is 60 years old, having blood group O Negative. He has been donating blood voluntarily since last 34 years. He has donated blood more than 136 times. He motivated the students to donate blood to save the lives. All the audience appreciated the Mr Naseer’s great services for humanity.
Ms Hafsa Ijaz, MBBS final year student, President “TUFIANS Blood Donation Society” of the University threw light on the objectives and purposes of the society and its activities during the last year. She said that the members of the Society are actively involved in fulfilling the needs of blood donations for patients in Madinah Teaching Hospital.
