US Scholars Prof. Elizabeth Norford deliver a talk in University of the Punjab
   

LAHORE: (September 12): Department of History & Pakistan Study Centre of University of the Punjab in collaboration with American Institute of Pakistan Studies, arranged a talk of an eminent US Educationists. Prof. Elizabeth Norford who came to Pakistan as an educational consultant to the Hoshayar Foundation, which is an American based public charity dedicated to improve lives through educating girl children.

The topic of her lecture was “Approaches towards creative education in South Asia ”. Prof Dr Carla Petievich, Professor of History, Montclair University, USA introduced her to the audience and the services rendered by Ms. Norford. The speaker focused on her experiences of teaching with group of students in America , India , Nepal and Pakistan emphasized that the Pakistani Students have enormous potential and commitment for learning.

According to her, the most important function of teaching children is to create meaning in their lives in order to make comprehensible the complexities of their lives. She categorized it as progressive and revolutionary idea in education. She conceded that the practical realities in Pakistan were quite different but the solution of educational problems of Pakistan lie in concentrating on education and adopting progressive educational strategies. At the end of her talk, the participants asked penetrating question.

The lecture ended with a note of thanks from Prof Dr S Qalb-i-Abid, Chairman, Department of History, University of the Punjab .
