Changes to TextBooks on the Cards
Lahore : October 01: PUNJAB Minister for Education Rana Mashhood on Monday announced making necessary rectifications and alterations to the textbooks of various levels after consultation with educationists and position holders of secondary and higher secondary school education levels.
Addressing a ceremony held in honour of toppers of the Boards of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISEs) Lahore and Gujranwala at the Punjab Textbook Board, the minister said the district education authorities (DEAs) all over the province would be activated soon.
To a question about the provision of scooties to college girls by the government, Mashhood said the pilot project would be launched within the next two months from Rawalpindi. He added the government had asked the vice-chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) to hold awareness seminars for students and their parents to remove taboos in this regard. He said in the first phase, 80 scooties would be on road with consent of the parents of the willing girls, adding that the pilot project would be replicated in other cities of the province if successful.
The minister said alterations in the textbooks were aimed at reaching unified syllabi for both private and public sector schools and colleges in the province. He termed the position holders as “role models” for whole the nation, saying the students had earned the honour in spite of massive loadshedding and economic problems of their parents.
The whole world acknowledged their potential but some anti-state elements propagated negative image of Pakistan only because they feared that Pakistani youth could lead the developed countries if they were provided with proper opportunities, he said, adding that soon the world would progress on the basis of the ideas originated by the Pakistani youth.
He said the school councils and district education authorities would be activated all over the province soon while the process of recruitment of 30,000 educators would be complete before March 2014.
The education minister vowed to provide missing facilities to all the public sector girl and boy schools in Bahawalpur, Multan and DG Khan divisions this year whereas all public sector girl schools in the rest of the province would be facilitated in this regard during the current fiscal year.The news.
