Introduction

In the emerging Pakistani society, for the first time in public sector, University of Gujrat has taken the initiative to establish an International Centre for Civil Society and Cooperatives (ICCSC). The Center is established to promote and strengthen local and global linkages between civil society, cooperatives and government institutions including NGOs through exchange of ideas, sharing expertise and resources to uplift the underserved and marginalized communities to bring social change within the society and contribute to the processes of social, political and policy change through research based interventions.
Civil Society is composed of the totality of voluntary, civic, social organizations and institutions that forms the basis of a functional society. A balanced combination of these three pillars ensures long-term sustainable development of any society, regardless to its political system.
Vision

To commence a portfolio of opportunities for Civil Society and Cooperatives for ascertaining/imparting the knowledge and developing relevant skills among the target groups through skill building activities.
Mission

The prime focus of ICCSC is to build the capacity of the faculty, academia, civil society and other public sector institutions by conducting leadership training workshops, research based seminars, conferences and mobilizing youth for advocacy campaigns to undertake mutual supporting activities.
Aims and Objectives

Putting its mission into practice, the Center for Civil Society believes to deliver impact through education. It has four primary objectives:

   Improve the understanding of faculty of UOG, Civil Society, nonprofit organizations about the
     actions for public benefit
   Inform policy-decisions at local, regional, national and international levels
   Educate Public and Private sector managers about professional and leadership skills by
     enhancing their capacities; and
   Monitor major developments affecting civil society, including the changing roles of active partner.
Affiliations and Linkages

ICCSC is closely associated and working with Centre for Civil Society & Cooperatives (CSAC) University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), UK, University of PURDUE, USA and Global Youth Leadership (GYL). The objective of this association is to maximize the opportunities to give exposure to Pakistani youth about global development and to explore options to invite world renowned scholars to visit ICCSC and UOG to deliver lectures and exchange of ideas.
