Department of Sociology University of Gujrat
The discipline of sociology encompasses many of the particular interests and methods of the other social sciences and some humanistic fields as well. In doing this, sociology does not replace those disciplines; rather it complements them.
The sociological goal is to chart the interconnections between the various realms of thought and conduct, to find the balance between the social and individual components of personal identity and to locate the social origins of harmony and strife in every area of experience.
Sociology majors are motivated by a strong desire to understand how and why our society functions, and how to help individuals cope with social institutions and the challenges of social interaction. This motivation, combined with an education that encourages students to challenge assumptions and investigate issues beneath their surfaces, often leads to careers that are deeply rewarding on many levels.
The specific objectives of the curricula are as below:
To acquaint students with the basic sociological concepts and Principles.
To equip students with basic sociological research methods and Application of computer in
sociological research.
To enhance understanding about important social problems in national and international
perspectives
To enable students to apply sociological knowledge for analyzing various social situations.
