National Student Satellite Programme to be Launched
Lahore: October 04: SUPARCO, Pakistan’s National Space Agency, is launching “National Student Satellite Programme (NSSP)” as a way forward for a sustainable and progressive student satellite development programme by involving and training/equipping university students for the high-tech space industry.
According to Hassam Khan of the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the student satellite is the emerging dimension of space research at the moment saying all the advanced countries have initiated such projects to enhance academia-industry partnership.
It serves many purposes, including low cost design, technology and component validation, and most importantly human resource development. Hassam said under the National Student Satellite Programme, various satellites would be launched and National Student Satellite -1 (NSS-1) would be first of the series which will be designed and developed in collaboration with various national engineering universities/institutes.
Sharing details about educational objectives of the programme he said it was aimed to create space science and technology-related awareness and interest at the national level, particularly amongst the academia of the country, to promote satellite engineering and technology related research culture at leading universities and institutes of the country, to provide hands-on training of bright space enthusiastic students of leading national universities and institutes and to foster and promote cooperation/collaboration in satellite engineering and technology-related areas of mutual interest between SUPARCO and leading universities and institutes of the country.The launching ceremony will be held here on October 7.The news.
