Universityof Veterinary Sciences of Lahore milk report challenged

LAHORE:A PETITIONER on Friday filed an application in the Lahore High Court, requesting it to declare a University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences report on packaged milk deficient and not based on proper tests.

The court had sought a report from the UVAS on the allegedly adulterated packaged milk.

Petitioner Barrister Zafarullah Khan said the UVAS report was incomplete and it missed many factors which were to be detected in a proper analysis.

He said the university analyst should have tried to find out the cause of excessive sugarcane in the milk.

He asked whether it was due to excessive water in the milk with some colouring or was it to maintain its natural sweetness. He said the excessive addition of artificial sugar would harm the diabetics.

Barrister Zafarullah said the UVAS did not analyse the milk samples for presence of antibiotics like penicillin and sulpha drugs.

Moreover, the university checked the presence of hydrogen peroxide as antiseptics and as perspective.

He said it was surprising that the report, issued by the UVAS and submitted by amicus curie, only 15 days after their report published on April 24, 2009 in an English newspaper was entirely different in nature though it also found the adulterants but not of the same nature.

Therefore, the petitioner prayed to the court to declare the report deficient.

The main petition on the matter is fixed for May 29.

cases orderED: An additional district and sessions court on Friday issued instructions to the capital city police officer, Lahore, to register cases against two SHOs of separate police stations for not complying with the court orders.

Despite the court orders, the SHOs of Faisal Town and Mozang police stations did not register cases of two different applicants. The court had issued directions to both the SHOs to submit reports after registering the cases on the applicants complaints but the SHOs did not obey the orders.

POLL controversy: Justice Mian Saqib Nisar of the Lahore High Court has asked senior members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association to find out a workable solution to end the ongoing controversy over the bars presidency.

To keep the integrity of this prestigious institution, a solution acceptable to all sides must be found out, said Justice Saqib addressing Malik Saeed Hassan who was defending Munawar Gondal, the incumbent president.

I dont want to listen to this issue on legal grounds. I am more interested in keeping the sanctity of this century-old institution because after leaving the bench I and other judges would also have to return to the bar, he said.

The judge suggested that the bar hold a referendum to resolve the issue. Shazar Khilji advocate had filed a writ petition seeking directions to restrain Munawar Gondal from working as president and announce fresh elections. With these suggestions and remarks, Justice Nisar adjourned the hearing until May 25.
