Students of Agricultural University, Rawalpindi protest colleagues’ arrest

RAWALPINDI: The students of Pir Mehr Ali Shah-Arid Agricultural University, Rawalpindi, (PMAS-AAUR) on Thursday staged a demonstration to protest the detention of their colleagues by the police in connection with the murder of Muhammad Shahzad, a university student. The protesters came out and blocked Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Road (BBSH) for around an hour, causing traffic suspension. Holding placards in their hands, they chanted slogans against the city police and the university administration. A girl student said that the police in collaboration with the university administration arrested innocent students and tortured them without any rhyme or reason. “I find no words to condemn the humiliation of university students at the hands of police,” remarked another protesting student of the university, who had seen his colleagues being beaten, dragged and bundled into the police vans. The student leaders said that to stage protests and hold rallies was their democratic right and no one could snatch it from them. They also requested the Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Education Abid Sher Ali to conduct an inquiry into what he alleged the malpractices of the university administration. They also demanded an early release of all their innocent colleagues. staff report Daily times
