Aims of Faculty Department of Psychiatry Services Institute of Medical Sciences
The aims of the faculty are:
Encourage the medical students to join the field of psychiatry.
Fulfill the unmet needs of the psychiatric care.
Reduce stigma against the patients with psychiatric illness, their care givers and families as well as against the professionals belonging to the psychiatric profession.
Protect the legal and human rights of patients with mental illness.
Promote good medical / psychiatric practice.
Formulation of strategies to ensure provision and promotion of appropriate psychiatric services in the Hospital and community education and incorporation of the local administrative authorities, Volunteers and NGOs.
Implementation of mental health act to protect the rights of the patients and psychiatric health professionals.
Increase the number of psychiatrists after teaching and training postgraduate trainees.
Continuing medical educaion programs to upgrade the knowledge of the health professionals with the recent advances.
Continuing research to improve the quality care of the psychiatric patients.
