USEFP to increase scholarships for Pakistanis
ISLAMABAD: In a bid to encourage students to avail opportunity of graduate education in the United States (US), the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) held another event at its premises on Friday marking celebration of ‘International Education Week.’

This event was attended by about 75 potential graduate applicants currently enrolled in Bachelor programmes at various universities and colleges of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The students had an opportunity to mingle and do networking with each other and with some American Alumni that were present there to represent their Alma Matar’s. They also had a chance to interact with USEFP Educational Advisors to discuss the US application and admission process for graduate students and discuss various academic opportunities available for them.

“The number of scholarships offered by USEFP in Pakistan will be increased this year. In 2010, around 381 Pakistani participants went to the US on fully funded programmes (including Fulbright), and next year we hope to nearly double this number raining it to 630, ” said USEFP Acting Executive Director Rita Akhtar in a statement issued here.

She said that two new programmes for journalists and others for public administration were also offered while the number of grantees in another undergraduate program – Global UGAD - is doubled.

Graduate alumni from various US universities also shared their experience of studying in the US and how it had affected their approach towards life and work. One of the booths on display was manned by Visa Officers from the US Embassy who were answering questions and addressing concerns regarding US student visas. Different stalls were also set up to provide information on scholarship programmes and available testing services. The students were briefed that at the graduate level in the US, they frequently directly worked with some of the most qualified specialists in the world.Daily times
