Lahore: The foundation stone of the Foundry Service Center was laid at the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) on Thursday.

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Chief Executive Officer Shahid Rashid and UET Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (r) Mohammad Akram Khan laid down the foundation stone of the Foundry Service Center (FSC) which was being taken as a joint project of SMEDA, UET and Pakistan Foundry Association (PFA).

Addressing the participants of the ceremony, Shahid Rashid said the government of Pakistan had granted approval to the project last year and provided funds of Rs 179.40 million in this regard. "A piece of land, measuring approximately four kanal, has been provided by the UET for the project" he added.

A presentation was also made on the occasion according to which over 1800 foundries were operating in the country including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Multan, Peshawar and Karachi and 95 percent of the existing foundries fell in the category of SMEs.

It was stated that operation of the Foundry Service Centre at UET would enable the foundry sector avail modern facilities like computer aided pattern designing, material testing and training. The news
