LAHORE: Dean Faculty of Arts and Social sciences Government College University Lahore Dr. Khalid Pervaiz said, "We believe in creating an environment in which academic excellence can be combined with opportunities for personal development, enabling individuals to make their own future". He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of International conference on Culture and Mental Health organized by the Dr. Ajmal Psychological Society of Psychology Department Government College University Lahore at Bokhari Auditorium. He said that we respect the academic freedom of all staff members and students. This we believe is the best means of promoting creativity and generating innovative solutions to problems. He further said GCU seeks to recruit and develop staff members and students of the highest quality. Dr. Khalid Pervaiz ensures that our activities are carried out ethically. We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all staff members and students. While speaking the conference the chairperson Psychology Department GCU Dr. Kausar Sohail said that the primary objective of the International Conference on Culture and Mental Health is to create this awareness by inspiring and motivating researchers to address and investigate matters crucial to people living in Pakistan. She said Culture provides its members with an available repertoire of affective and behavioral responses to the human conditions including illness. In other words, culture plays an important role in defining abnormality, influencing expression and presentation of illness in individuals, and affecting our ability to reliably diagnose and treat mental illness. At the occasion, foreign delegates, guests from the different universities of Pakistan, large number of senior teachers and students were also present.
