The admission to the Institute is strictly on the basis of merit determined by its own admission test. There are no special quotas, reserved seats or admission by donations. Nor is there any arbitrary age limit for the applicants. In fact, the Institute is open to all persons of either sex and of any religion, color, creed, class or domicile who are academically qualified for admission to the courses of study offered by the Institute, and no such person shall be denied the privileges of the Institute on the grounds only of sex, religion, color, creed, race, class or domicile."

EligibilityThe applicants must have one of the following qualifications with at least 60% overall marks or equivalent grade. Applicants must also secure at least 60% marks or equivalent grade in Mathematics and Physics.
HSSC (Pre-Engineering) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
Three A-levels (Advanced Level General Certificate of Education) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (D or above grade Mathematics and Physics) and seven O-levels.
American or Canadian High School Diploma with Mathematics (with calculus) Physics and Chemistry.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with Mathematics (with calculus), Physics and Chemistry.
B.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics
Three year polytechnic diploma, in the same discipline as faculty applied for, from a Pakistani Board of Technical Education.
HSSC (Pre-Medical) having completed Additional Mathematics will be considered for admission provided their result is available at time of application.
Note: Applicant having Computer Science / Computer Studies in lieu of Chemistry at their HSSC or A-Level, can apply for Computer System Engineering or Computer Software Engineering only.
All Candidates except those applying on the basis of (7) above, may apply for provisional admission if they have completed one of the above courses and are awaiting results. Applicants who are provisionally admitted must ensure that their results are received in the admissions office by the specified date mentioned in their admission offer, otherwise they cease to exist on the roll of the Institute. Additionally those provisionally admitted who fail to meet eligibility criteria on the basis of result submitted to admission office, are taken off the roll of Institute. In such a case there will be no refund of the dues already paid.
Confirmation of all admission will be subject to submission of medical certificate of fitness from the Medical Centre of GIK Institute, an undertaking by students and his/her parent/guardian to abide by the existing rules and regulation of the Institute and as framed from time to time.
Applicants who are provisionally admitted must ensure that their results are received in the Admission Office by the specified date mentioned in their admission offer; otherwise they will cease to exist on the roll of the institute. In such a case, there will be no refund of dues already paid.
Confirmation of all admissions will be subject to:
Submission of medical certificate of fitness from the Medical Center of GIK Institute, and
An undertaking by the student and his father/guardian to abide by the rules and regulations framed by the Institute from time to time.

Overseas ApplicantsThe eligibility requirements for the Overseas are the same as for the applicants from within Pakistan. They may however, take Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT-II) in Physics and Mathematics (Math IIC) in place of Institute's Admission test. Applicants have to choose only one basis for their admission i.e. admission test or SAT-II, an option once exercised cannot be changed. The candidates filing two separate applications on two different bases for admission are liable to be disqualified.

Advance Standing AdmissionsA person who has been enrolled for a relevant Bachelor degree program in engineering at some accredited (PEC, HEC) institution and has earned 15 or more transferable credits with minimum CGPA of 2.5 on the scale of 4, may apply to this Institute for admission with advance standing. However, the student at the GIK Institute to wishing to qualify for a bachelor degree must earn a minimum of 70 credits including 6 credits of senior design project. An applicant for transfer from a local or foreign institution is required to have passed the Institute’s admission test or SAT – II (overseas applicants) respectively by securing equal to or more marks than the minimum merit of the faculty in which he/she seeks admission. However, acceptance of request for transfer will depend on availability of seat, and the quality of academic work already done by the applicant. Admission TestAdmission to the Bachelor Programs of the Institute is decided on the basis of candidates' score in the admission test, which comprises multiple choice questions based on Pakistani intermediate level Physics, Mathematics and English. A sample of such questions is provided along with the application form.
The test is held simultaneously at Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, Multan and Dubai. The venue and general instructions for the test are intimated along with the dispatch of Admit Cards. Applicants can choose the test center according to their convenience. The results of the admission test are communicated to the selected candidates by post. Those applicants who do not receive the admit card one week prior to the test are advised to contact the Admission Office.
For the candidates applying on the basis of SAT-II, the merit will be determined by their Percentile score.
A former student of the Institute whose enrolment was cancelled due to unsatisfactory academic performance is also allowed to appear in the admission test. If selected, he/she will be enrolled in the first semester as a freshman and may not be given credit for the courses passed earlier. Any student who is currently on the roll of the Institute and wants to change the faculty is allowed to appear in the admission test. If selected he/she will not be given credits for the courses passed earlier.

Fee And ExpensesThe Institute is a non-profit organization and provides subsidized education. The annual tuition fee (non-refundable), subject to revision from time to time, is as under for the 4 years for local residents and sons/daughters of expatriate Pakistanis.

The annual tuition fee will be charge as per following rates from the foreigner students: -

The tuition fee is payable before the commencement of the Fall semester each year. A non-refundable admission fee of Rs. 15,000/- for Pakistani or US $ 650 for foreign applicants is also required to be deposited along with the annual tuition fee. Rs. 15,000 will be charged as security, refundable at the time of leaving the Institute, subject to the clearance from relevant departments. The messing charges, to be paid every month, are based on the actual expenditure, which is approximately Rs. 2500 to 3000.
The fee charged per course offered during the summer semester is notified with announcement of the summer semester. The final year students are charged convocation fee of Rs. 5000/-.
Financial Aid and Scholarships are also available for deserving students.

Female StudentsThe Institute encourages female students to join the engineering profession. Because of revolutionary developments in the technological field, it is no more considered as an exclusively male domain, and offers a host of highly rewarding careers, which suit the special endowments of women. The Institute has taken measures to provide a very supportive milieu for the female students. It has a girls' hostel, having a capacity for 120 students, with all modern amenities, a gym and a lady counselor to facilitate the stay of female students on the campus.
