Karachi Dawood College of Engineering and Technology  students protest

Karachi:Hundreds of students and non-teaching staff from the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET), on the call of the Talba Action Committee, staged a protest demonstration on Monday against the forced sacking of college principal Dr M Naseem.

The students boycotted classes and ongoing midterm examinations and staged a sit-in at M.A Jinnah Road. They chanted slogans against the federal education minister and for the reinstatement of the principal. They also set fire to the suspension notification.

Talba Action Committee leaders rejected the suspension of the college principal and termed it illegal. They asserted that DCET was a federal institution and only the President of Pakistan had the power to suspend the principal, while the notification was issued by the federal education department. They also rejected the proposed appointment of grade-18 engineer as the principal and said that the decision was taken by neglecting many senior teachers of the college, adding the federal minister wanted to appoint a principal on the basis of favouritism. They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the suspension notification of DCET Principal.
