PUC Censures Elements Disrespecting Women’s dignity
Lahore : 21 September : Islam commands to protect the honour, dignity and lives of daughters and those playing with their sanctity are neither Muslims nor humans.
These views were expressed by speakers during Friday gatherings throughout the country on the occasion of “Yaum-e-Rehmat” [day of blessing] held by the Pakistan Ulema Council [PUC].
They said the incidents of rapes and killings of girls that had taken place in the country during the past few weeks were a matter of shame for the entire nation.
During Friday gatherings in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Miranshah, Karachi, Hyderabad and other places, the central leaders of the PUC approved a joint declaration demanding the Pakistani government to publicly punish criminals guilty of raping or murdering girls.

Addressing a gathering of thousands of people at Jamia Masjid Jallo Mor in Lahore, PUC Central Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi said Islam gave protection to sisters and daughters. “Those who are against girls’ education or bury infant girls alive are indeed enemies of the teachings of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH],” he added.

He said the PUC would hold events entitled “Azmat Bint-e-Hawa” [honour of women] throughout the country to raise awareness about rights of women and status of daughters. He demanded the chief justice of Pakistan to immediately issue orders for speedy trials of criminals guilty of raping girls in Kasur, Lahore, Jhang, Faisalabad and other places.

Ashrafi further said it was impossible to stay tight-lipped over these incidents and PUC would raise its voice against these horrific incidents.

While addressing a gathering in Faisalabad, PUC Secretary General Sahibzada Zahid Mahmood Qasmi said people should rise up for the protection of their daughters, and “those who are violating the honour of our daughters should be brought to justice”. pr.
