Khuhro urges bureaucracy to Spend Education Budget ‘Honestly
Karachi : 09 September : If the bureaucracy spends education budget honestly literacy level can be increased in the province, said Sindh Education and Literacy Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while addressing a moot on the occasion of International Literacy Day.

He said the government would also provide free uniforms to the students of government schools besides free textbooks, adding that the rules for teachers' recruitment need to be further strengthened so that teachers are recruited purely on merit. He also requested parents to report in case they found any negligent or ghost teachers.

Defending the universities bill recently amended in Sindh Assembly, Khuhro said that in other provinces, the chief ministers are authorised to make recruitments in universities as well, therefore there is no reason to protest against the recently passed universities law. He said, however, if positive suggestions were floated the government is ready for proper amendments. Separately, addressing another seminar, Khuhro said social workers were rendering priceless services to society and virtually changing it, silently, with their untiring efforts.

Khuhro was addressing annual award distribution ceremony of a local NGO Hands. He said the government and civil society are working for the betterment of people. Education is vital sector and its development is necessary for rapid uplift of society.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Executive Hands Dr Tanveer Shaikh thanked philanthropists and national as well as international support organisations for their support to the cause. He said the present budget of Hands is Rs 2 billion a year and it has also opened an office in London under the banner of Hands International. ppi.
