‘Progress in social sciences vital to country’s growth’
Karachi:December 14:“Issues which tend to augment instability and crisis in society can only be addressed by adopting a scientific approach,” said University of Karachi Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Moonis Ahmar while addressing a closing session of the two-day International Conference on Contemporary Social Sciences.

Based on reasoning and rationale, he said social sciences were crucial for establishing good governance, which was in turn pivotal for societal growth.

Given the discipline’s vastness, it was indeed disappointing that developing countries including Pakistan did not give it the due recognition, he noted.

Presiding over the session, distinguished intellectual Prof Dr Shareef ul Mujahid said, “The country had to make progress in the field of social sciences in order to be able to be at par with developed nations.”

Lauding efforts of social scientists, he specifically called for acknowledging the work of social scientists of the past decade for having made commendable progress in the field.

Renowned defense analyst Prof Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi said a good research should always aim at presenting varying opinions in an unbiased manner, and is carried out for the purpose of finding the truth.

Appreciating Prof Ahmar and his team’s efforts for organising the conference, he said such discussions were crucial for policy makers as their policies have a direct bearing on the society’s progress.

A number of scholars of national and international repute presented their papers during the two days of the conference. The news.
