O- and A-level Students protest against IBCC equivalence policy

Lahore, Oct 14: Students of O- and A-level staged a protest demonstration against the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) and its equivalence policy in front of the Punjab Assembly on Monday.

Students from various institutions of the city said that the equivalence policy of the IBCC was damaging the future of students and depriving them of admissions in medical colleges.

They demanded a separate entry test for A-level students, saying that the government had specified 30 percent seats for A- and O-levels students in medical colleges across the country. Students held banners and posters and shouted slogans against the IBCC, demanding that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif review the policy.

Separate: A student of A-level at the Aitchison College, Waqas Ahmed, said that the government should hold a separate entry test for O- and A-levels students which was based on the O- and A-levels course. He said that the marks given by the Cambridge University should be a consideration in the equivalence policy, adding that a student who topped the world in A-evels could not get more than 935 marks in equivalence.

A father of a student, Dr Farhat, said that students of A- and O-levels are suffering due to the equivalence policy of the IBCC. He said that the syllabus of A- and O-level students was more modern than the FSc and it was cruel of the IBCC to waste the talent of good students through their equivalence policy. He also said that they deducted 15 marks from students, due to which thousands of students were deprived of admissions in medical or engineering colleges every year. Daily Times۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔
