Workshop on Civil Engagementat Fatima Jinnah Women University
 
Rawalpindi:June 29: The Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organised an interactive workshop on ‘Civil Engagement’ here on Friday. Dr. Agnieszka Nance and Dr. Beth Wee from Tulane University were the resource persons of the workshop. Faculty members and students from different departments participated in the workshop.
The resource persons gave a presentation on Tulane University and talked about different service learning courses offered by university. Later, they elaborated on various aspects of civic engagement activities and discussed the ongoing projects of their university.
Dr. Agnieszka Nance said that service learning directly targeted serving the community and student learning. Talking about the benefits of social service, she said that it will not only help students to assess their own service performed, as well as it will be helpful for their community partners. Then she discussed the components of successful service learning and exchanged ideas with participants that how it can be improved.
Earlier Farzana Akhter, deputy registrar of the FJWU, briefed the delegation on the academic research and extension programmes of the university and its role in community development. Talking about the civic engagement programme at the FJWU, she said community work is under Women Research and Resource Centre and that they are planning to do need-based analysis of the organisations located within the area of Rawalpindi and Islamabad that will help them to streamline their activities of civil engagement.The news.
